How to oversome this "Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator"

Most of you while in your college during lab sessions wanted to fiddle around with the registry but always got this error message "Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator", there is little you can do to enable it unless that PC is using Group Policy Editor. To do that follow these steps:

Click Start, type gpedit.msc in the Search box, and press ENTER.
A window will open.
Go to the following branch:
User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System
Double-click Prevent access to registry editing tools(scroll down a bit for that).
Set it as Not Configured and it's done.

Note: If it's already set to Not Configured, set it to Enabled and click Apply. Then repeat the steps and revert the setting back to Not Configured. This removes the registry based policy if set already.
So now you can do some research work on your Lab PCs when your teacher is not around :)

How to download from youtube and other video buffering websites

Well most of you would be watching videos on youtube and would like to download it for later viewing , there are some softwares available to do it for you but they are either shareware or have limitations .But you can do it on your own by copying from the cache folder of the web browser.I will give an example with chrome and windows 7(should work the same way for other browsers and xp):

Go to:
C->Users->Administrator(or whatever account you're logged in)->AppData(you need to set hidden files to visible to see this)->Local->Google->Chrome->UserData->Default->Cache and there you have it.

Now the searching part begins , leave the files with data as names apart , there would be files like f_randomnos which is what you're looking for , check the 'Date Modified' of the folder and the latest one would probably be your video(also note file size , should be around 10mb for a 3 min video) and then open with vlc player and enjoy the video , you can copy it to some safe place to view it later.

Note:
1.This only works for non-encrypted sites(eg.youtube)
2.No need to change extension , just play with vlc media player.

Do leave your comments if this works.

How to check who used your PC in your absence, what did he do?

Goto
Start>Run>eventvwr.msc (Works in xp and Win7)

Events are stored in three log files: Application, Security, and System. These logs can be reviewed and archived.
For our purposes we want the System log. Click on "System" in the left-hand column for a list of events.
Look for a date and time when you weren't home and your computer should have been off.
double click on the eg: info and it will show you the detail.
You can also use this log to see how long someone was on the computer. Just look at the time the computer was turned on and off for that day.

So now no one can fool you that they did not use your PC when you were away.
